Interestingly, this isn’t Osaka’s first foray into a world expo. In 1970, the city hosted the first-ever World Expo in Asia — a moment that became a symbol of Japan’s economic miracle. The Expo introduced the world to video phones, early robots, and the dream of global connectivity decades before smartphones or the internet became part of daily life. Now, 55 years later, Osaka is poised to inspire the world once again.

Of course, no visit to Expo 2025 would be complete without stepping inside the pavilions, which are special buildings created by each country or company to show their best ideas, culture, and future technologies.

Among the most talked-about is Japan’s Pavilion, a circular, living structure powered by on-site renewable energy. Waste is converted into fuel via a visible biogas plant, and the entire design is based on the concept of circulation — an eternal connection without beginning or end. Three separate entrances and exits create a sense of individual journey and highlight the idea of a multi-layered experience. Feeling hungry? Grab a bite at Kura Sushi’s world-record-length conveyor belt, or head to African Dining Room PANAF, where they serve signature dishes from across the continent.
