Norwegian Cruise Line is investing $150 million into Great Stirrup Cay, its private island in the Bahamas, with a major expansion led by the new Great Tides Waterpark, set to open in summer 2026.

The nearly six-acre waterpark will feature 19 waterslides, including a 170-foot Tidal Tower, two of the island’s tallest drops, and a family slide that fits up to four riders.

The Great Tides Waterpark will be a paid experience with a single admission fee that covers all of its attractions. Cabanas and other premium add-ons will be available for an extra charge.

An industry-first cliff-jumping zone with 10 and 15-foot platforms will add even more thrills. A faster “dynamic river” will wind through an illuminated grotto, lined with cabanas and a swim-up bar.

Younger cruisers will have their own space at Tidepool Town, a 9,000-square-foot splash area with eight mini slides and a 40-foot tipping bucket.

Beyond the waterpark, Norwegian is transforming the island itself. A new pier will finally allow two ships to dock at once, eliminating the need for tenders—a change regular visitors have been waiting for.

The expansion also includes the Great Life Lagoon, a massive heated pool with two swim-up bars, private cabanas, and a family play area.

Other additions include the adults-only Vibe Shore Club, Horizon Park with pickleball courts and mini-golf, Hammock Bay with more than 50 hammocks, and even a Jet Karts Water Track that combines the experience of go-karts and jet skis.

These changes are designed to support a sharp increase in visitors, with Norwegian aiming to nearly double the number of guests visiting Great Stirrup Cay by 2026.

On our last visit, we stayed in one of the Lagoon Villas in Silver Cove, a private side of the island. With these new upgrades, Great Stirrup Cay is about to offer even more ways to enjoy a day on the island.
