Safari Adventure Packing Tips – Don’t Leave Home Without
The key is packing the necessary essentials you will need, without overdoing it. To help you get a solid start on packing for your next adventure, we have provided a; list of essential items, you should consider taking with you, on your safari.
Packing For Your Safari Adventure
Proper Clothing – What To Wear On Your Safari
Packing Tips #1
Depending on the time of year and where you’re taking your safari, will definitely play a huge part in what clothing to pack.
My wife and I traveled in late September on our adventure in Tanzania, which included beautiful; Serengeti National Park. The weather was hot and dusty during the day, and cool at night and in the morning.
We packed light, outdoor clothing including; shorts, t-shirts, light outdoor easy dry zipper/shorts style pants, and light long sleeve shirts.
We also had very light, quick dry outdoor windbreaker’s, for the early mornings and evenings. Running shoes worked fine, for outdoor adventure hikes with {Rangers in the Parks}.

It is suggested to avoid bright colors and stick to neutrals like; khaki, deep green and brown. While dining at resorts or camps, casual wear is just fine. As well, don’t forget to pack your swimsuit, as many accommodations have swimming pools.
Adequate Protection From The Sun
Packing Tips #2
Base on your personal type of adventure, boots/shoes with durable soles, may be necessary, especially if you plan on doing longer hikes with Rangers. Bringing along a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, plenty of SPF sunscreen and lip balm, is recommended.
If visiting areas in the hot, dry season, protecting yourself from the hot sun is crucial! These essential items will protect your skin from one of the harshest elements in the world.
Along with your sunscreen, bring along insect repellent.
The bugs on your trip will be a bit exotic, in comparison to those that you may encounter at home. Some of these pesky insects could be carrying diseases. Always be aware of this and be diligent in taking preventative measures.
Adventure Gear – Basic Necessities For Camping
Packing Tips #3
For those taking a more rugged camping safari adventure and particularly if on your own, in addition to your regular camping gear, it is recommended to carry with you;
Plenty of snacks and water;
A lighter and/or waterproof matches;
A pocket knife;
Wet wipes;
A water purifying kit for emergencies;
Travel First-Aid Kit;
Insect repellant;
Cellphone and/or GPS device;
You must adhere to all strict rules enforced by Rangers for remote camping in designated campgrounds only. Your safety and taking all the necessary precautions to protect you from wildlife, is priority one.
Of course, what you plan to pack will relate to the type of Safari you may be taking. You must register and take what is recommended and required for remote camping on your own where permitted.
There are some amazing Glamping Safaris to experience, where the above items won’t be necessary.
Your selected choice of accommodation and safari chosen, will certainly depend on what you need, or may not require.
Your host for both, will certainly advise you beforehand, what you should pack for your adventure.
Quality Optics
Packing Tips #4
The sites you will experience on your first safari will be unlike any other. Make sure each moment is captured to share and revisit upon your return.
Bring a good camera/cellphone with plenty of memory and easy portability!
Look into waterproof casings and solid straps, to protect your camera from damage during your adventure.
A set of good binoculars, if required to bring your own pair, is highly recommended. Depending on the tour operator you choose, many will supply binoculars while on safari. We were supplied with binoculars to use, and cold drinks each day on our adventure.

As mentioned above, my wife and I enjoyed an wonderful vacation in Tanzania, Africa. We experienced an amazing Safari Expedition, in Serengeti National Park and other beautiful parks in the country.
It was a trip of a lifetime!
As we did travel at the end of the dry season, the daily temperatures were still hot, and the safari back roads were dusty.
I do recommend light weight clothing, including shorts and long sleeve shirts for the sun. You are out on safari for a full day, arriving at your camp just before supper, and you will be exhausted.
We had no problems with bugs or mosquitoes at this time of year, but did take along bug spray, just in case.
